A 54-year-old Zvishavane man has been remanded in custody as he awaits trial in a case where he is accused of sexually abusing a 38-year-old mentally impaired woman.
Darlington Moyo of Mtambu village under chief Masunda in Zvishavane reportedly forced himself on a mentally impaired Shamiso Homera.
It is the state’s case that the accused met the complainant fetching firewood and forced himself onto the victim without consent and later threatened to kill her if she was to report.
The complainant then became pregnant forcing her concerned mother to report to the police which led to the arrest of the accused.
Meanwhile, from 25 November to 10 December, the world observes 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.
This campaign spotlights the actions being taken to end this global scourge, which is one of the most pervasive human rights abuses in the world. This year’s campaign theme is: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape.
The 16 days run from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.
