Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has revealed that the country will experience suppressed power supplies until imports from the region are restored to normal levels.

In a statement released today, the company said there is going to be is an increase in load shedding outside the publicised schedule due to limited supplies of electricity imports from the region.

“ZESA Holdings would like to advise its valued customers countrywide that there is an increase in load shedding outside the publicised schedule due to limited supplies of electricity imports from the region.

“Customers will experience suppressed power supplies until imports from the region are restored to normal levels,” reads the statement.

The company urged its customers to switch off all non-essential electrical appliances, including those that would not be in use.

“ In the interest of minimising the effects of load shedding in view of the suppressed imports from the region, consumers are urged to use the available power very sparingly.

“ZESA appeals to consumers to switch off air-conditioners, switch off their geysers and use cold tap water rather than using the geyser every time and  customers will be updated accordingly as the power imports from the region improve,” reads part of the statement.

A number of mining companies operating in the Great Dyke region have been adversely affected by power shortages which have led to a drop in output.

Meanwhile, Minister of Mines and Mining Development Winston Chitando revealed that the government has come up with an energy development programme that will see Zimbabwe exporting electricity by 2024.
