The Mines and Mining Development ministry says the government has outlawed mining in national parks after an in-depth review that was conducted when miners that had special grants applied for environmental impact assessment as per the procedure.

Minister Chitando indicated that the miners at Hwange National Park had been granted special grants in accordance with the provisions of the Mines and Mining Act.
The minister was responding to journalists who had asked why the special mining grants had been issued in the first place.
