In a bizarre incident that left Mbizo residents in the mining town of Kwekwe shell-shocked, a Mbizo man was stabbed to death over a $2 snooker bet.
Police in the Midlands has confirmed the incident and investigations to the matter have since been instigated.
Absalom Chinono of 15701 Mbizo 15 died upon admission at Kwekwe General Hospital after he was stabbed by Moses Takundwa following the misunderstanding during a snooker game at Black Tuck-shop in Mbizo 15 shops.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Joel Goko said Chinono died from wounds sustained from the stabbing.
“On 27 May 2019 around 5 pm at Black Tuck-shop in Mbizo 15, the two were playing snooker. A misunderstanding ensued between the two involving a $2 that had been used as a bet for the game. Amid the commission, Takundwa produced a Colombia okapi knife and used to stab the now deceased once on the ribs and he fell unconscious,” said Inspector Goko.
Seeing that he had committed a crime, Takundwa disappeared from the scene leaving Chinono lying in a pool of blood.
Chinono later died from the wounds upon admission at Kwekwe General Hospital.
Inspector Goko said police have since launched a manhunt for Takundwa and appealed to members of the public to assist with information that may lead to the apprehension of the culprit.
“We are appealing to members of the public to assists with information that may help bring the culprit to book,” said Inspector Goko.
He appealed to members of the public to solve differences amicably.
“We are also urging members of the public to solve their differences amicably to avoid unnecessary loss of life. If there are any challenges, people should engage and find better ways of solving their differences rather than turning violent,” said Inspector Goko.
