The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has announced the indefinite postponement of the opening of the 2021 first term.

In a statement, the ministry’s permanent secretary Tumisang Thabela said the postponement was due to rising cases of covid-19, the risk posed by the new more contagious variant of the virus as well as the threat posed by tropical depression Chalane.

“Having deferred the opening of schools beyond 04 January 2021, the dates for the commencement of the 2021 School Calendar for all primary and secondary schools will be announced in due course as Government monitors the situation,” reads the statement.
